LIFEbeat Summer Camps 2012Camp 1 at Stanford Hall: 24th – 31st July |
LIFEbeat Summer Camps
LIFEbeat summer camps offer a unique opportunity for young people aged 14–18 to express themselves creatively, discover new ideas, be inspired and learn from others. Most importantly they can be themselves. Participants walk away with new confidence, communication skills, friends for life, and a belief in their own ability to lead and make a difference. We achieve this by creating a safe environment for participants to take creative risks, under the mentorship of a passionate team of trained adult facilitators.
- The week offers a unique programme of arts-based activities and a daily choice of workshops: incorporating music-making, discussion and debate, lyric-writing and poetry, story-telling and dance, theatre improvisation, outdoor games and nature-based exploration.
- Camps are set in a beautiful location in Leicestershire: nutritious meals are provided and young participants sleep in tented camps, staffed overnight to ensure that everyone is safe and secure.
- Participants are drawn together from many different backgrounds and cultures, bringing a broad range of experiences and perspectives on life.
- Young participants work alongside adult mentors throughout. The camps finish with a Youth-Led Day, encouraging participants to plan their own workshops, realise their ideas and experience leadership in a community context.
- While individual talent is celebrated, no particular skills or experience are required to get full benefit or enjoyment from the programme!

“This camp is the most inspiring, loving and the most welcoming and positive experience I've ever had in my life. The best week I've ever had. A very great experience” Joanne age 16 |
“I can't fault my LIFEbeat experience, it was simply incredible. The camp opened me up as a person. Because of my experiences in life, I used to shy away from meeting new people and trying new things, but the camp has changed that. I would recommend this to anybody. Given the chance I would go back any day” Billy age 19 |

“Darnell has a new found confidence and self respect and a heightened sense of ambition and desire to achieve. He is more motivated and clearer about the need to nourish himself by developing his talents, especially lyric writing. He seems less fearful and critical both of others and himself - a greater acceptance of who he is and therefore who he can be” - Katharine Roberts, Globe Academy Darnell age 16 |
“LIFEbeat isn't 'normal’, it’s different in an AMAZING way, it can change your perspective on loads of stuff - you don't really realise how much you've changed until you get home. LIFEbeat is one of the best experiences in my life” Elene age 15 |

Adult volunteers
LIFEbeat Summer Camps would not be possible without our vibrant and passionate community of adult volunteers. We deliver a bespoke training programme for all paid staff and volunteers in the run up to camp and participating in LIFEbeat as an adult can be an unforgettable experience:
“The camp offered the youth a safe, supportive and friendly environment, where many of them found their voice, learnt more about themselves, were able to share their experiences – happy or painful – with a group of people they knew they could trust, and were challenged to explore their creativity, thoughts, and feelings... It was unquestionably the most rewarding and uplifting week of my life.” |
We like to meet all of our staff in person! If you're interested in volunteering at LIFEbeat then please get in touch...
LIFEbeat has a comprehensive Safeguarding Policy, and all camp staff and volunteers are fully CRB checked.
